The air filter has collected a lot of dust and I think it's making my hair-dryer act up. It's like a wiry net, so it's very hard to just "wipe" the dust away; I need something that will get between the fibers. Any ideas?

If you use a small very soft toothbrush and gently brush it, the lint will come out. Make sure it is dry. I clean mine about once a month.

I use small soft toothbrush. Actually my girl's old toothbrush.
I use also vacuum (i have 1 small vacuum - for computer keyboard).
You can also try using micro fiber cloth.
